PROGRAM

658 Hour Massage Program
The 658 Hour Massage Program provides a Swedish foundation with complimentary modalities in a lecture and lab format. A strong emphasis is placed on business practices and the real life applications of massage therapy as a career. The classes are designed to take the student from novice status to entry-level professional status. Upon completion of this program, graduates are prepared to open their own practice or work in a variety of settings such as health clubs, chiropractic offices, hotels, and spas. Graduates receive a diploma from the Stone Clan Education Center and are eligible to sit for the National Board Exam. All hours are supervised.


COURSES


Anatomy and Physiology 136 Hours
Students gain a detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and all of the body systems (skeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, etc.) The class starts at the cellular level and progresses through the tissue, organ and system levels. The muscles and their origin/insertions and innervations are emphasized. Palpation is used as well as slay manikins and other visual and sensory aids to enhance the learning experience.

Massage 290 Hours
Swedish massage is taught as a foundation in which to build the knowledge and skills of the student. Strokes such as effleurage, petrissage, tapotment, friction, etc. are extensively explored and practiced. Also, techniques and timing of draping as well as hygiene, assessment, medical terminology, and documentation are taught. Students trade massages regularly with each other as well as the instructors to ensure plenty of "hands on " experience while in the classroom.

Allied Modalities
Techniques of massage such as Swedish massage therapy, Muscle Energy, Stretching, Chair massage, Joint Movement, Treatment Approach, Pregnancy massage, Orthopedic massage, Acupressure, Deep Tissue massage, Hydrotherapy, Eastern Traditions, Specific Injury Treatment and Geriatic massage are taught both at "introductory" format and some in more detailed format, so the student can get an appreciation for the scope of modern massage therapy.

Pathology with indications/contraindications
The student learns about the common diseases seen in practice. How these diseases are transmitted and identified are learned. Also taught are indications and contraindications of massage.

Ethics / Communication / Client-Therapist Dynamics 28 Hours
This class lays the foundation for setting and maintaining professional and personal boundaries, and how to reach ethical solutions to common challenges faced by massage therapists.Exercises such as role-playing are utilized to develop clear and compassionate communication skills. Attention is given to balancing the power in the practitioner/client relationship, how to ask the right questions, how to develop deep understanding of a client's perspective.

Techniques 96 Hours
To gain an ever increasing knowledge of massage techniques, the following are taught on a fairly in-depth format:

Postural & Biomechanical Analysis
Students learn how to assess a client's posture through plumb line analysis. Postural faults are explained with regard to postural/muscular relationships. Students learn release strategies for targeted faults. Biomechanics provides depth to this class by giving students the tools to assess a client's condition incorporating such concepts as flexibility, viscosity, elasticity, plasticity, stiffness, viscoclasticity, fatigue and endurance.


Trigger Point Therapy
Students learn the history of Trigger Point Therapy and the part that it plays in
providing an effective pain relief massage. Students develop touch sensitivity to locate trigger points in addition to deducing the location from pain patterns. Major trigger points of the body will be covered.

Sports & Remedial Massage I & II
I: Application of Massage techniques to enhance athletic performance. This class encompasses pre-event, post-event, during competition, training-conditioning, and restoration - rehabilitation for chronic and acute problems. Addressing injuries, thermo regulation, the physical, physiological, and psychological effects of massage for athletes are taught in this class.

II: This class addresses chronic problems that the student will encounter, not only in the athletic world, but in their regular practice as well. More advanced techniques are taught such as deep fascial work, neuromuscular therapy, and soft tissue manipulation. Problem areas including the scalenes, rotator cuff, quadratus lumborum, sciatic, and psoas are addressed.

Spa Treatments
Students learn about the spa industry - past, present and future. Topics specific to the spa industry are emphasized including; spa draping, timing for a fast-paced environment, creating a serene environment, employment opportunities in various types of spas and more. Students will learn eight different spa treatments with the opportunity to both give and receive each treatment.

Aromatherapy
This class is designed to allow the student to safely and effectively incorporate the use of essential oils into a bodywork practice or spa business. Focus is on appropriate choice of oils and applications for non-clinical personal care and esthetic treatments. Emphasis on safe, effective application in a short time frame without aromatic overlap into the next treatment. The 10 most versatile essential oils are covered in depth. Safe use, contraindications and client assessment training allow the student to put the information into immediate use in home or work settings.
 

Reflexology
Students learn the ancient healing art of foot reflexology. Anatomical positions of reflex points and how to read the foot are taught. Students learn techniques for a complete Reflexology treatment and how to integrate reflexology into a regular massage session.

 

Business Mastery 28 Hours
This class is a comprehensive guide that balances business skills with a humanistic approach. Vital topics covered include; marketing, client retention, professionalism, referrals, planning, business start-up, choosing advisors, designing promotional material, self-management and networking. Students learn the practical side of the massage profession and are prepared to enter their careers.

Study Habits 4 Hours
This course is taught the first week of the session to help prepare the student with organizational and study techniques for the demanding academic load.

Prerequisite: Enrolled in 658 Hour Massage Program

Student Clinic 72 Hours
This class gives students the opportunity to perform massage on the public. Great care is taken in assuring that each student is ready for this step. Students greet clients, conduct in-take interviews, perform a 50-minute massage, and receive feedback from the client. All clinic hours are supervised with instructional support available at all times. Hours include set-up and takedown and front office service answering the phone, setting appointments, charging clients and filing client forms.

National Boards Review 4 Hours
This class comes at the end of the program and gives students access to review materials and instructors to answer specific questions. The NCBTMB exam is an important facet of a professional career, and we encourage all students to take the exam.

Total Cost
$8850.00
Students without massage tables are required to purchase one in the first six weeks of the program. The cost varies from $399 upwards. The students are also required to purchase 2 sets of sheets to fit Massage Table, these sheets are required: Baby Blue in color. Both Massage Table and sheets can be purchased at the Stone Clan.
